My leadership style: a messy mix — but a real one

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years working in product, it’s that there’s no single “right” way to lead. Some lead through strategy, others through passion, some lead by example. Over time, I’ve shaped my own style. It might not fit in any handbook, but it works—with the people I work with. If I had to name it, I’d call it the “Mati style.”

Leadership is about adapting

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with all kinds of teams—creative chaos lovers, structure-driven minds, people who need guidance every step of the way, and others who thrive when left on their own. That’s when I realized good leadership isn’t about imposing a system, it’s about creating the conditions for everyone to do their best work.

My style is a mix of many things:

I’m a highly organized person who values clarity and process—but I also thrive under pressure. That last-minute adrenaline rush gets the best out of me.

I’m very extroverted. I love getting to know my teammates, learning about their interests, sharing recommendations, talking about movies, or discussing the latest design trends.

I like to listen when something’s off, open the conversation, and find real solutions together.
I don’t just delegate and wait—I stay involved, and I like everyone to be involved too. I believe in constant check-ins and moving forward as a team.

And above all, I’m always learning. I have no problem saying “I don’t know,” and I genuinely enjoy learning from those around me.

There is no mold

Sometimes I’m more strategic, other times I lead through energy or empathy. Sometimes I’m more democratic, other times more demanding. But I’m always real.

I believe leadership is a constant balance of intuition, empathy, active listening, and focus. It’s not about choosing between being an authoritarian or a peer-oriented leader, autonomous or perfectionist… it’s about understanding what the team needs in each moment—and showing up with humanity and commitment.

That’s my kind of leadership. A messy mix, maybe. But a real one.
